Best Shoulder Braces For Rugby

HOW CAN I PREVENT OR AVOID A SHOULDER INJURY WHILE PLAYING RUGBY?

As rugby is a fast paced, high contact sport, there’s a high risk of developing a shoulder injury.

Wearing a Bauerfeind brace or shoulder support can reduce your chances of injury through enhanced stability, proprioception and moisture-wicking medical-grade compression.

Some of the most common forms of injury while playing rugby include rotator cuff tears, fractures, and shoulder joint dislocations.

Take a look at Manly's Brendon Elliot wearing the Bauerfeind OmoTrain.

Bauerfeind shoulder braces have a unique design that guides and centres the arm in the socket to ensure a stable shoulder without causing any restrictions to movement.

The Omotrain guides and centres the arm in the socket so the shoulder maintains proper natural movement, without impacting your mobility.

Strapping runs across back and hips, so it won't impinge upon the chest area. The OmoTrain can be worn on either the left or right shoulder.

This added support will help stabilise your joint without limiting your ability to jump serve, block, spike a ball or off-speed hit

HOW DO I PREVENT SHOULDER PAIN WHEN PLAYING RUGBY

Rugby can place a lot of strain and load on your shoulders. Stretch before and after playing, and incorporate muscle strengthening exercises into your routine as well as flexibility exercises.

HOW TO TREAT A RUGBY SHOULDER INJURY

    • Strains or Sprains. Many sprains and strains can be treated with the RICE method: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. A physiotherapist can aid with recovery as well. If the sprain is more severe you may require surgery.
    • Rotator Cuff Tear. Conservative treatment such as rest, ice and physical therapy can help with full recovery of lower grade rotator cuff tears. If your injury is severe with a full or partial tear of the muscle or tendons, surgery may be the most appropriate.
    • Fractures. Depending on the location and severity of the fracture, surgery may or may not be required. Other treatment methods include immobilisation, icing, and pain relief medications.
    • Shoulder Joint Dislocation. The initial treatment includes relocating the shoulder joint back into its original place. Repeated dislocation overtime may require surgery to keep it stable. Other common methods include strengthening exercises

Play it safe: Consult a doctor if you experience unusually intense and persistent shoulder pain.
