WHY SHOULD YOU WEAR A KNEE BRACE WHEN SURFING?
Surfing is an intense water sport that puts a lot of pressure on your knees, especially the ligaments and tendons of the back surfing leg. Due to the twisting movements of the back knee while increasing speed or manoeuvering the surfboard, surfers are at a high risk of ACL and MCL tears.
If you are suffering from advanced cruciate or collateral injuries, such as Grade 2 and Grade 3, we recommend using SecuTec Genu knee orthosis. It's saltwater friendly and can be washed after use.
The SecuTec Genu assists with healing a torn ligament, collateral ligament injury or operation on the meniscus. It is best used when the knee joint needs to be stabilised from the outside for some time.
Wearing a Bauerfeind brace or knee support can minimise your chances of a surfing injury by providing strong stabilisation of the knee. This added support will help stabilise your joint without limiting your ability to ride a wave, enjoy a barrel or hang ten.
WHY WE DON'T RECOMMEND NEOPRENE
We do not recommend using a cheap neoprene knee brace or knee sleeves to prevent surfing injuries. These sleeves offer little support and do not wick moisture, which decreases the knee brace's durability.
Using a 3D weave and moisture-wicking fabric, Bauerfeind knee braces are ideal for everyday and sports use. As the old saying goes, you do get what you pay for.
