Occupational Therapists working with: Orthotics, Orthoses and Compression

The NDIS has been designed to provide participants with various needs, access to products and support services within their community. Occupational Therapists (OTs) often work with a participant to find those products or services which will allow them to complete daily activities without pain. In today's blog, we look at Occupational Therapists working with those who have orthotics, orthoses and compression requirements. And how Bauerfeind may be able to help.

Occupational therapists and the NDIS

Under the NDIS, OT's are able to co-ordinate with providers. This means that the participant, the OT and the provider of any relevant services (such as braces, medical equipment or other assistive technologies), can all work together to quickly and easily provide the best care.

While we could look at every different type Assistive Technology (AT) and how it can work in with the treatment of each participant an OT may work with, we’d like to narrow it down to three different types.

Orthoses such as braces and supports. Orthotics including custom and standard. And Compression garments for all parts of the body.

Bauerfeind is now certified as an official NDIS provider, meaning we can work directly with OTs and participants to get these products straight to you without having to wait for approval or deal with red-tape!

OTs working with Orthoses needs

Bracing and supports is one of the best ways that you can manage a participant’s condition between appointments, ensuring there’s consistent support and treatment 24/7.

Understandably, each and every OT has their own preferences, and participant’s needs will often inform the decision-making process. However, to assist with finding a high-quality product, here are a few things which set Bauerfeind braces apart.

  • No reliance: Decades of global medical research and German engineering have led to the development of our orthoses range. By focusing on proprioception, muscular activation and compliance, we’ve ensured that there’s minimal chance of reliance when our braces are worn, especially when combined with therapy.
  • Uncompromising quality: The unwavering attitude of German technology has led Bauerfeind to be the leader in the field of bracing for virtually every indication. Rather than focusing on price tiers and what’s easy to make, each one of our braces has the medical effect first and foremost, from development to fitting.
  • Easy use and support: All of our braces are designed to be as simple as possible to use, primarily for comfort and compliance, but also to make them as accessible as possible to all healthcare workers and customers.

In addition to this, our team are available by phone, video and email to help you out with any queries. Book a video consultation with a Bauerfeind expert: Book Video Call, or call us on 1300 668 466.

OTs working with those who have Orthotics needs

Insoles are often seen as the domain of podiatrists alone, but it’s important to note that a suitable pair of insoles off the shelf can provide invaluable benefits. Especially when combined with therapy and/or bracing.

The idea of custom orthotics is often too much work or too specific for most therapists, which is where Bauerfeind’s insole range really shines.

We have developed a wide range of insoles that can be ordered with no customisation required and will fit the vast majority of feet. Whether it’s senso-motoric, soft foam, hard foam, children’s and adult’s insoles, diabetic insoles and more, Bauerfeind have orthotics for everyone.

Insoles are ideal to combine with treatment or to add that extra level of stability, pain relief and comfort.

Everyone can benefit from compression

It’s hard to overstate just how beneficial medical-grade compression is. Whether you’re looking to provide pain relief, swelling and oedema management, improve circulation, stabilise the muscles or speed up tissue healing. Medical compression is one of the most effective and accessible ways of treating it.

Back when Bauerfeind started back in 1939 our focus was compression garments and research. Now, we’re world leaders when it comes to medical compression.

From basic venous compression all the way to advanced lymphedema, our flat knit and round knit weaves use the highest quality materials to ensure patient comfort and compliance is the highest it can be.
