SHOULD I WEAR A KNEE SUPPORT WHEN RUNNING?

Uneven surfaces and fatigue carry with them the risk of injury. Some runners also suffer from unstable ligaments and tendons.

Due to the biomechanical forces acting on the leg during the running movement, the knees are an easy target for knee injury.

A British Journal of Sports Medicine study reported that more than half of running injuries are knee injuries.

A preventative measure to avoid knee pain from running and potential knee injuries is wearing a Bauerfeind Sports Knee Support or the GenuTrain knee brace.

It can minimise your chances of injury by providing enhanced stability and proprioception with medical-grade compression.

The medical-grade compression helps in draining out accumulated lactic acid during the recovery period.

ATHLETE AGNES WEARING THE SPORTS KNEE SUPPORT

Take a look at elite athlete and hiker Agnes Christine wearing the Sports Knee Support for added knee support and to prevent knee injuries.

We do not recommend using a cheap neoprene knee brace or knee sleeves. These sleeves offer little support and are not moisture-wicking. Combined this decreases the durability of the knee brace.

      BEST KNEE SUPPORT FOR RUNNING

Look for the best knee support to prevent knee injuries when running. The most important thing for runners is having a knee brace that fits perfectly around the knee and doesn't slip off.

To prevent braces from coming with special gripping zones and elastic flat-knit fabric. This fabric prevents brace slippage and is breathable, washable, and moisture-wicking.

HOW CAN A KNEE SUPPORT HELP WITH MY RUNNING?

Wearing a knee support can prevent common running injuries, such as runner's knee and ligament tears. Knee supports can also assist with proprioception, stabilise knee joints, and reduce fatigue.

HOW TO TREAT A RUNNING INJURY?

We recommend visiting a physiotherapist for treatment and advice on treating common running injuries. They may recommend the following treatments.
      • Strains or Sprains. Many sprains and strains can be treated with the RICE method: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. A good physiotherapist can assist with recovery; however, prevention is always better than a cure.
      • Runner’s Knee is the common name for patellofemoral pain syndrome. It is often caused by abnormal mechanics caused by problems close to the knee, forcing the patella to bump against the femoral groove. We recommend speaking with a running-specific physiotherapist. They will usually review your running form as well as your tissue and musculature.
      • Ligament Tearing. Ligament tears will generally always require surgery. A torn ligament rebuild uses a tissue graft, as the ligament will not typically heal properly. Surgery can be minimally invasive; however, these injuries may take considerable time to heal.
